AUSTNET
has undertaken three full implementations of Cluster Server and were bought in to repair a
dubious implementation of a fourth.
Three of these clusters are operating on
Compaq ML Cluster Servers, which have a shared SCSI Drive
Array Storage Sub-System. These Compaq systems are
specifically designed to be Clusters and come configured in
a single rack mounted chassis.
The 4th
Cluster has been undertaken using 6 separate Compaq Servers
arranged in a Cluster with a SAN disk Array.
One is a NetWare 5.1
cluster and the other 3 of these installations are under
NetWare 6. Clustering is NOT a standard
NetWare installation - and are NOT recommended as “a piece of
cake” install for any network admin!
Novell Cluster
Services
Novell Cluster Services is a directory-based
clustering solution for NetWare 5.1 and 6.0 that supports up
to 32 Intel servers with 32 processors each and provides
high-availability networking, load balancing and fault
tolerance.
Novell products that can be clustered to
“fail over” are GroupWise, ZENworks for Desktops,
Novell Portal, and NDPS Printing.
